Loss of the Game Master

Loss of the Game Master (March 2025)

January of this year, the developer of BrowserQuests™, Scott Huelsman, sadly passed away from his battle with cancer.

BrowserQuests™ was like a child to him, a huge passion project, and although Scott cannot roll up a new character sheet, his family is working hard on keeping the site afloat. It's not easy assuming ownership of the project, and unfortunately, we cannot dedicate the same amount of time has he was able to, but nonetheless, BrowserQuests™ will live on.

I have provided some answers to some questions that I felt may be most common:

What does the future of BrowserQuests™ look like?

  • At the moment, I cannot promise anything. Currently, BrowserQuests™ will stay in a stasis of web maintainence. What this means is we will keep the website running and secure. Small tweaks may occur here and there in order to make sure user feedback is received to an appropriate location.

Does this mean development of BrowserQuests™ and its modules is finished?

  • No, but don't expect things timely. It is a huge system and needs a lot of time to deep dive into to learn and understand. It is the hope that future development will continue, but for the time being, maintainence is the focus.

I encountered an issue with BrowserQuests™ and/or I'm stuck!

  • Please continue to report issues in any way you may have previously. Unfortunately, a response is unlikely at this time, as the full understanding of how to resolve the issues is not quite there yet. But having it on the radar means we can help tackle those problems so that future experiences are more enjoyable.

Other questions?

  • If you are stuck and need help, the Discord Community is always helpful! They can help while we work on learning the intracacies of the game.
  • For other inquiries, at the moment, the Discord Community is still the best place for the time being.

To all the players, thank you so much for playing BrowserQuests™. It's so wonderful knowing that so many people shared and enjoyed Scott's passion. You are all contributors to his legacy in life, and are all appreciated for the continued support
